At Ramshyttan Horse Farm we are trying to grow as much of our own food as possible, avoiding chemical fertilisers and using no herbicides or pesticides. We believe that much of the mass produced food available in supermarkets has little nutritional value, a lot of it being directly unhealthy and even harmful.
Ramshyttan Horse Farm is a member of WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms), an international network that helps people to share ideas and experiences of more sustainable ways of living.
Every summer a number of wwoof volunteers come to stay and work on the farm, and in return for bed and board help with, among other things, developing our organic gardens.
We produce our own compost from horse manure, hay, silage, and green kitchen leftovers.
Last autumn we erected a small greenhouse (25 square metres) which we will experiment with in the coming growing season. The farm lies quite high up in the hills, so the summer is shorter here and many varieties of fruit and vegetables will not grow at this altitude.
